In reply to Audrey. Then I will give it a try! Yeah the nut sensitivity issue is a bummer for sure. The only nuts I’m actually allergic to are walnuts.

Oh, no Fran! I am so sorry to hear about your digestive issue with nuts, that is truly unfortunate. I’m so happy you enjoyed the cake – it really is delicious – but not happy you can’t enjoy it going forward.

As for the ground pistachio, that’s a great question. I have never tried it myself. I find pistachio sometimes isn’t as “absorbant” as almond is, so I hesitate slightly. But there are many “similar” middle eastern/northern African recipes that use ground pistachio similarly, so it really could work, albeit with a different flavor profile.

I made this as per the recipe. It was really delicious! Unfortunately I have determined that my digestive system cannot take this much almond, as it gave me a stomach ache. I have a history with minimal sensitivity to nuts, and while I don’t love almonds, I am not allergic to almonds nor have I had trouble with smaller amounts (think an almond cookie). However, it appears that the amount of almond meal per serving in this recipe is not tolerable. I’m bummed, because this was really delicious and easy to make.

If you don’t have any issues with almonds, you will love this! I am leery of trying Audrey’s suggestion of ground hazelnuts because again, could also be a problem. I haven’t eaten enough hazelnuts to know. Wondering if ground pistachios would be a problem – I know those are okay with my system. Audrey, what do you think about using around roasted pistachios?

In reply to Carol Ann. I appreciate the support, Carol Ann. I really enjoyed making the book, it was my first ever. It's enjoyable to see how many writing and photography has changed since 5yrs ago. I love that you can "add" recipes to a blog. But books are always special to me.

In reply to Carol Ann. Hello, Carol Ann. No, these recipes weren't part of my book. The book was released in 2019 and I have added many, many recipes to my blog since then (including these 2). I'm hoping to release another book in the future though :)
