Yes, it's a little saucier to its American counterpart, Jakub! You can adjust that for the next time if you prefer a little less, but I like it both ways :)

This is another great recipe! I was a little surprised at how saucy it was, but I didn't mind it at all because the flavors were so nicely balanced and the bread absorbed the dressing so nicely.

Thanks!

Merci, Roxanne! Thrilled that you enjoyed the egg salad. My husband very often puts cheese on top of his as well, and you made a great choice with gruyere!

Love this! I didn't have cornichons so I used 1tsp of dill pickle juice from a premium brand of pickles. I also added 2 Tbls of greyère cheese to up the protein content. (I only used 2 eggs and adjusted measurements of everything else accordingly). This egg salad oeuf dur is outstanding! Thanks for sharing what will be a classic in my house.

Chives from the garden just hit and pop a little differently. They'll be an excellent addition in this salad, Fran! I'm in the exact same boat as you because my husband used to love miracle whip also, but it was not for me, at all. Fortunately, we only have mayonnaise here in France, so I don't see any containers of it in our fridge :) Enjoy!

Interesting. This is much closer to my mom’s recipe except we use slightly less mayo per egg. But only slightly. Now that spring is here I have chives! And yes, Dijon! Perhaps it is the strong French influence found in Louisiana. I will be making this recipe as it sounds better with the addition of cornichons and capers than my family recipe. I detest sweet pickle relish and so don’t use that in my egg salad recipe. Also, some in the American South use that blight upon condiments known as Miracle Whip. Aaaaargh! Each to his own, I say, trying to at least appear tolerant, LOL!

In reply to <a href="https://www.pardonyourfrench.com/french-egg-salad/#comment-63786">Amanda</a>.

Thank you, Amanda. It really is comforting and delicious. It's very familar for those who enjoy the traditional "American" egg salad, but different enough to make it worth doing. Oh, and to answer your question, the name of the salad in French is nothing too special, we call it "salade d'œufs durs" (pronouced something like "salaahd d'uh duur". Enjoy!

I can’t wait to try this! High protein, healthy and undeniably loaded with fresh flavours. I’m sure this’ll be high on my lunch rotation. What would the name of this dish be in French?
