Pardon your French is a blog devoted to delicious French food, and to enjoying food the French way.
Because these two things just can’t be separated.
If you’re new here, simply get started on the home page, where you will find the most recent recipes and posts (at any time, just click the logo to get back to the home page). If you have something specific in mind, like baking a brioche or how madeleines were created, use the search bar on the right-hand side of the menu, or you can browse the recipe categories.
So, what is Pardon Your French about, exactly?
Pardon Your French is revisiting French Cuisine, so you too, can cook, eat and live like a French. (even if you’re not living in France!).
The recipes you will find here all belong to the French culture, from one region to another, from yesteryear to today. And most of them are adapted for French food devotees, cooking outside of France.
Foraging for fresh and seasonal ingredients, getting excited about preparing a meal as much as eating it, and making each meal a celebration. That’s all part of it, too!
Here’s what you’ll find on the blog …
Authentic French recipes
Here you’ll find 100% authentic and carefully curated French recipes; all tested, approved and enjoyed – many, many times. If you have any doubts or questions about a recipe, feel free to leave a comment and you will get a response!
French food stories, beyond the cliches
France has bountiful regional dishes that, sadly, are very often ignored. I am passionate about (re)discovering regional dishes and exploring terroir stories. Most recipes here come with the stories behind the food and details about the region it originated. By sharing these stories with you, I like to think we’re keeping a part of the French gastronomical heritage alive.
Joie de Vivre Inspiration
Aside from inspiring you to prepare delicious meals from scratch, I’d like to get you inspired to (re) discover the small joys of the kitchen and get you excited about cooking. Don’t rush, take your time, read a good book, enjoy picking your ingredients and create beautiful dishes as expressions of your Joie de Vivre.
Here you probably won’t find many restrictive recipes or dietary notes.
What makes PYF different from other French cooking blogs?
There are so many great French cooking blogs out-there. But most of their French chefs, cooks or bloggers live in France. They have limitless access to all the French ingredients and seasonal produces that common recipes usually require – So what about when you live outside of France?
All the French original recipes from PYF are translated and (re)crafted to be easily made with ingredients available in the US and Canada (and sometimes available in other countries as well). Recipes are offered along the seasonability of produce in the US and Canada (which varies from France), and use cups and Fahrenheit (instead of grams and Celsius). That makes things much easier, right?
And if you want to jump in, you can start here with the most popular recipes to date:
- Buckwheat pancakes from Auvergne
- Fool-proof Crepes
- Rice Pudding with a hint of Vanilla
- Peach Galette
- Provencal Chickpea Flatbread
- Mediterranean Black Olive Baguette
Things are just getting started here!
As you might have noticed, PYF is a fairly new blog and there isn’t a great amount of recipes available yet. But the list will grow steadily every week – so be sure to stick around, friends!
Happy reading & Bon appétit!
